Lock and Load, It’s a New RATCHET & CLANK Clip (Exclusive)

When the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance, you don’t want to show up to an intergalactic gunfight empty-handed. Especially not when there’s a villainous alien named Chairman Drek on the other end of that fight, threatening to destroy every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Fortunately, the world of Ratchet & Clank is filled with an arsenal of weird, wild, and wonderfully destructive weaponry that our eponymous heroes, Ratchet the Lombax mechanic and Clank the delightfully droll robot, use to combat the forces of evil. The filmmakers behind Ratchet & Clank, the forthcoming feature film adaptation of the fan-favorite video game series, understand the appeal of things that go boom. So, before you see the film, take a peek at Ratchet’s awesome array of deadly devices in an exclusive clip.

For those not in the know, Ratchet & Clank is an upcoming animated feature film based on the Insomniac Games series of the same name. (Fun fact: the new Ratchet & Clank game is billed as “the game based on the movie based on the game.”) The sci-fi action comedy will serve as an origin story, retelling the events of the original Ratchet & Clank, which shows us how the two title characters first crossed paths. Ratchet (James Arnold Taylor) is a Lombax mechanic (a weird cat-like alien race) who dreams of becoming a Galactic Ranger and protecting the universe from all manner of evil. Clank (David Kaye) is a diminutive, “defective” Sentry-bot who accompanies Ratchet on his adventures around the galaxy. Though he may not have been cut out for a life of robotic servitude, he is more than up to the task of acting as Ratchet’s partner, especially when it comes to facing down universe-ending menaces.

The film adaptation is directed by Kevin Munroe, and written by Munroe, T.J. Fixman, and Gerry Swallow. In addition to voice talent from the video game series, Ratchet & Clank stars Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, Rosario Dawson, and Sylvester Stallone.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Two unlikely heroes struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy ‘lombax’ who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way, they will learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.”

Ratchet & Clank hits theaters on April 29, 2016.
