In advance of the amazingly comprehensive âThe King of Beatsâ Ma Dukes Yancey Collectorâs Edition Box Set, which is available for preorder on June 24, The Dilla camp has released and unreleased track by the man himself to whet our appetites. Listen to the James Brown-sampling track, “Filth,” below.
The box set, which was curated and supervised by Dilla’s mom–Ma Dukes Yancey–will feature a compendium of tracks that highlight Jay Dee’s early career, around the time that he was producing for Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, and more.
The physical box assumes the likeness of the SP-1200 drum machine that Dilla used to create some of his most memorable instrumentals in that early part of his career. The goodies inside include:
-Four 10′ Vinyl LPs loaded with 40 beats
-A special edition cassette featuring six unreleased tracks
-A commemorative booklet with exclusive interviews and never-before-seen photography
-A limited edition 3.5″ floppy disk with an unreleased production that plays within the SP-1200 box
