Finish up your taters before you read this next sentence because, hoo boy, is it a doozy: it’s finally been confirmed that the entire original cast of Wet Hot American Summer have signed on to make a limited series at Netflix.
In a feat that puts Arrested Development‘s scheduling chaos to shame (we’re sure), creators David Wain and Michael Showalter have somehow managed to get Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, (we told you it was an impressive/insane list!) Ken Marino, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Joe LoTruglio, Christopher Meloni, A.D. Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Marisa Ryan, Molly Shannon, Michael Showalter, aaaaaand Kevin Sussman all back together for the 8-episode limited series for Netflix.
“We’re going to do a prequel where [it’s] the same actors who were 30 playing 16-year-olds then, now they’re going to be in their mid-40s, also still playing 16,” Wain explained to Seth Meyers.
Though we do know it’s set two months before the cult classic film’s original story â set on the last day at a Jewish summer camp in the early ’80s â word is still out on the particulars of the series’ prequel setting. (Though knowing these absurdist goofballs it’ll very likely be hilarious). But we’re totally fine with waiting, particularly because filming, according to Deadline, already started this week.
So â how excited are you for the series-ization of Wet Hot American Summer? What would you like to see from it? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
“Now if you’ll excuse me I’m gonna go hump the fridge.”
while I wait I’ll be in my cabin smearing mud on my ass…
