Lin-Manuel Miranda Made You a Playlist to Help with Writer’s Block

When he’s not making raps about The West Wing or bidding farewell to President Obama, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is using his musical talents to philanthropic end. On Galentine’s Day, he created an amazing playlist to get you and your girls through the holiday. Now, he’s back with another playlist because he never wants you to stop singing.

Lin-Manuel Miranda took to Twitter to share a 19-track playlist called “Write Your Way Out,” a collection of songs “about writing, songs that feature great writing, and everything in between.”

The playlist is full of gems about pens. You’ve got your hit musical numbers, like “Happy Birthday Darling” from Bright Lights, Big City and “Once and for All” from Newsies. Next come staples from folk icons like Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. It wouldn’t be a Miranda playlist if there wasn’t moving rap, so he slipped in tracks by Saul Williams, Nas, and clipping.

Lastly, for good measure, you can dance to poppier tracks like Vampire Weekend’s “Oxford Comma” and Sara Bareilles’ “Love Song.” It may sound like these songs couldn’t be more different from one another, but thanks to the order he’s listed them in, they flow from one to the next pretty seamlessly, making it just as fitting for writing inspiration as it is for a hangout with you and your friends at home. Don’t have Spotify? Don’t fret. Lin-Manuel Miranda is the type of guy who thinks of everything, which means he took screenshots of the song list order so you can make your own playlist on your “preferred music thungums.” See those screenshots below, open up your streaming service, and get listening. There’s music to be heard and you need to hear it now.

Thoughts on the playlist? Let us know what it inspires in you!
