In New York, you can be a new man. With a whole lot of talent, you can even become a renowned Broadway star. However, if you want to try your hand at being a hero with a secret identity, you should head to Duckburg. That’s what Lin-Manuel Miranda seems to be up to, as he’s signed on to join the all-star cast of the upcoming DuckTales reboot.
Disney XDÂ has announced today that the Hamilton creator, whose songs for Moana are still stuck in all our heads, will be voicing the mechanical armor-wearing hero Gizmoduck (the Gizmosuit!), whose real name is Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera. In this updated take on the character, Fenton’s everyday identity won’t be an accountant, but a brilliant young intern to Scrooge’s very own mad scientist, Gyro Gearloose (god, we love these ridiculous names).
In a press release, co-producer and story editor Francisco Angones said, “Growing up as a Cuban-American comics enthusiast, I was always hungry for a Latino hero to call my own. In developing the new series, Matt and I leapt at the opportunity to adapt DuckTales‘ marquee hero into a young scientist character with Latin-inspired roots.”
The show’s executive producer Matt Youngberg said Miranda “came to mind instantly for the role” because his “rapid-fire earnestness paired with his wide-eyed yet determined optimism made him the perfect person to yell ‘BLATHERING BLATHERSKITE!'” Strongly agree.
The show hasn’t even premiered, but has already been picked up for a second season. That’s not surprising, though, since Miranda is just the latest big name to join the project. Scrooge McDuck will be voiced by David Tennant, with Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, and Bobby Moynihan as his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, alongside Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack, Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley, and Beck Bennett as (personal favorite) Launchpad McQuack.
Duckburg might be a long way from New York City, but we sure do know a lot of the names who will be heading there, so it’s only fitting Lin Manuel-Miranda is one of them.
