LIMB’s “DAWN RAIDERS” is a Perfect B Movie Homage (Premiere)

A lot of hard rock, sludge metal bands make the same kind of video. Shots of the band looking dirty and tough. Probably some footage of a creepy wooded area or abandoned industrial facility. Lots of tattoos, sleeves shirts, and pagan imagery. That sort of stuff. The desired effect is to show you just how hard the band is, tough dudes making tough music.

Limb has gone completely the other direction with their video for “Dawn Raiders,” instead embracing a bizarre B movie homage that features space ships, strange planets, karate fights, and moon hillbillies. It’s weird, funny, and more than a little disturbing (see the aforementioned moon hillbillies).

“The video imagines what would happen if the band were astronauts who discovered alternative versions of themselves. And those alternative versions of themselves just happen to be space hillbillies,” singer Rob Hoey told us. There’s also a space monster who somewhat resembles a piece of equipment from an optometrists office and a magical, laser firing ring. This thing is jam packed, in other words. For those of us who love classic B movies and hard rock, “Dawn Raiders” is a marriage made in heaven.

“Dawn Raiders” is a hell of a song, too. It’s the second single from Limb’s recently released Terminal, which was produced by legendary producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, The Exploited). It’s got a driving bass groove and plenty of heavy, sludgy riffs. Hoey’s voice is gruff and caustic, but not without melody. Fans of Black Tusk, The Sword, and Beastwars will feel right at home with Limb blasting from their stereo. “Dawn Raiders” is a perfect example of just how hard this band rocks.
