Skiing at night in the dark sounds like one of the easiest ways to get yourself seriously hurt. But when you hit the slopes wearing a full LED suit it goes from being something incredibly stupid to something that is absolutely mesmerizing.
This video is actually a couple of years old, but was just (very fortunately for all of us) rediscovered by the Internet. Two skiers, draped in suits of light, traverse the slopes of the Alyeska Resort at the Golden Alpine Holidays in Alaska, creating absolutely gorgeous footage for us to marvel at.
There’s no other way to describe this video than stunning. It almost looks like the mountain is made of magic, the way the lights and snow combine to create an otherworldly sensation. Every shot is beautiful; the two skiers cutting down the slope read more like pure energy than mortal men.
This is actually a smaller segment (fittingly called the “Lightsuit Segment”) from a short film called Afterglow, which the filmmakers say required “deep pillows and Alaskan spines, all filmed at night, with massive lights, custom made LED suits, and a national governments worth of logistics, planning, and civil engineering.” You can watch the full short film here.
Given all that equipment they deemed necessary, you probably shouldn’t try doing this with your friends this weekend. But at least you can share this video with them.
There were so many great shots here, but which one was your favorite? Hit the slopes in our comments section below to tell us.
