LA’s Elohim Shares “Pigments” Website, Allows Users to Control her Heartbeat (Premiere)

The ease and ubiquity of web app technology has added a new dimension to artistic endeavors. Audiences are now able to interact with art online, giving musicians new ways to connect with their fans. Few web apps have more inventive, though, than the one just launched by LA-based artist, Elohim.

To accompany her latest single, “Pigments,” the indie/pop musician built a website that allows users to tangibly interact with her—or at least her Internet presence. The website creates a unique URL that users can type into their cell phones and then link to their computers. Once connected, the user is instructed to tap the phone screen to emulate Elohim’s heartbeat; the interaction changes her pigments and, effectively, keeps her presence alive. Today Nerdist is premiering the website’s full experience.

The project is an ingenious cross-platform concept that riffs on our growing obsession with virtual intelligence. The impetus for the website, though, was very much rooted in the real world. “You can’t make someone love themself but you can help them see life through different colors and perspectives,” said Elohim in a statement. “Perspective can make all the difference. I created “Pigments” to bring that thought to life. This video is an extension of that. Expressed through interactivity and analog art, the video allows you to control my pigments and realize your own.”

The song is glittering and richly textured, and its lyrics contain plenty of allusions to Elohim’s overarching sentiments—take a listen above to hear them. Elohim will release her debut EP via B3SCI Records this spring. Keep that heart beating Nerdist, and discover all the pigments that lie within.
