Larry David Will Host SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE Next Month

NBC has some “pretty, pretty good” news out of New York–Larry David will be hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time next month. David previously made two guest appearances this season as Senator Bernie Sanders, one of the leading Democratic presidential candidates. It’s a pretty safe bet that David will reprise that role in his SNL episode.

Back in 1984, David was a staff writer on Saturday Night Live for a single season, but he only had one skit produced during his time on the show. David is best known for co-creating Seinfeld, one of the all-time classic sitcoms with Jerry Seinfeld. In fact, David’s stint on SNL was where he met future Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

David also created and starred in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, which ran for eight seasons and is greatly missed here at Nerdist HQ. Technically, Curb Your Enthusiasm isn’t canceled and HBO has frequently indicated that a ninth season is entirely up to David. If Curb Your Enthusiasm season 9 was hypothetically happening in the near future, David’s SNL hosting slot would be an ideal time to announce it. We can dream, can’t we?!

Outside of television, David starred in Woody Allen’s Whatever Works, and he wrote and starred in a Broadway play called Fish in the Dark. When David stepped down from the leading role in his play, it was fittingly filled by former Seinfeld star Jason Alexander.

David’s episode of Saturday Night Live will air on Saturday, February 6, with The 1975 as the musical guests.
