FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper spent a lot of time investigating murder on Twin Peaks, but when Kyle MacLachlan’s character needed a minute to chill out, or when he needed some brain fuel, we could always count on him to return to his beloved cups of coffee. Check out this “Damn Good Coffee” supercut if you need a refresher. The campy ’90s drama is getting a revival on Showtime which premieres on May 21, and ahead of that, MacLachlan decided to get us all riled up by sharing a “Coffeetime” playlist on Spotify (via Pitchfork).
If you have four hours and 11 minutes to spend sipping away at a mug of coffee, then this mix is perfect for you. The 55-track playlist includes primarily vintage cuts from acts like David Bowie, Steely Dan, Neil Young, Van Morrison, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Elliott Smith, and others. It’s a decidedly retro-leaning mix, since the most recent stuff on it comes from the grunge era of the ’90s. Given that the show originally went off the air in 1991, that makes sense to us.
âIâll admit itâs â60s/â70s heavy,â MacLachlan writes in the playlist description. âI guess itâs true when they say you can never escape your past.â
Are there any clues within this mix that will reveal anything about the upcoming Twin Peaks revival? Nothing that noticed at first glance, no, but who knows. We do know some stuff about the new Twin Peaks, though, so find the accumulation of our knowledge in one convenient spot, right here.
