Even though it has more or less been assumed ever since David Lynch and Mark Frost announced a return to Twin Peaks in 2016 on Showtime, it is now official: Kyle MacLachlan will indeed return as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper when the series returns for a special 9 episode limited series next year. MacLachlan was on hand to make the announcement at the TCAs, coming out on stage unannounced to Angelo Badalementi’s Twin Peaks theme. He offered Showtime executive David Nevins coffee while spouting one of  Agent Cooperâs most well known and quoted sayings, âDamn good coffee.â  MacLachlan also added, “Iâm very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks. May the forest be with you.â
Speaking at the TCAs, David Nevins said he begged Mark Frost and David Lynch to bring back the show, and he felt like the only way to do it was to have David Lynch direct all of them. “I think in David’s mind, 25 years was the magic number,” he says. There was an “I’ll see you in 25 years” reference in the original. As for what Nevin’s (and the network’s) role on the show will be, Nevins said “more or less writing checks and leaving them alone. It’s David’s show. It’s Mark’s show. I will be the grateful recipient of it.” He also added that that Frost and Lynch have promised fan’s closure, after the series ended on a huge cliffhanger25 years ago, Nevins added, “I think it’s going to live up to expectations and then-some.”
So far, MacLachlan is the only cast member to officially sign back on, although there have been heavy hints on Twitter from former series actors like Ray Wise, Sheryl Lee, Madchen Amick and many others that they are coming back as well. This OG Twin Peaks fan however, is mostly awaiting the announcement that Sherilyn Fenn is getting back into the saddle shoes of Audrey Horne once again. #AudreyLives!
omg I would be in heaven if Sherilyn was to return. I loved Audrey so much.
