Kit Harington Will Play the Villain in New CALL OF DUTY Game

Through nearly six full seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Kit Harington has proven himself to be incredibly adept at playing a hero. It doesn’t hurt that Jon Snow is the Joseph Campbellian archetype of a noble heroic sort, either, though we don’t have to get into that right now (George R.R. Martin loves following that particular age-old trope). But now it looks like Harington is going to see how the other half lives. It was announced on Friday via press release that Mr. You-Know-Nothin’ will play the villain in the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Earlier in the week, Entertainment Weekly shared a quick video of Harington getting facially scanned for something, teasing their news delivered Friday. Taylor Kurosaki, the narrative director of Infinity Ward, praised Harington’s professionalism and talent. “Our story is about an epic showdown of opposing forces,” Taylor said, “and Kit immersed himself into the role and truly became the embodiment of the enemy, the Settlement Defense Front. We can’t wait for fans to see Kit play an entirely different kind of character.”

Additionally, it has also been confirmed that The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie was brought in to helm Harington’s scenes. “Guy Ritchie is a friend of the franchise,” said Dave Stohl, a studio exec at Infinity Ward, “so it was great to have him back to work with us, assisting in bringing Kit Harington’s character to life in Infinite Warfare.” Ritchie previously directed a live-action commercial for the Call of Duty franchise.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be released November 4, 2016, and more information will be released this Sunday at Electronic Arts’ EA Play event in advance of E3. The previous CoD game, Black Ops III, made $550 million in sales in 2015, making it the highest-grossing entertainment titles of 2015, even higher than Jurassic World.
