Kids Do Xylophone Rendition of Led Zeppelin Hits

If you’ve ever lived in an apartment or gone to college, you know there’s always that one guitar-playing a-hole who starts indelicately plucking the familiar notes of “Stairway to Heaven” at 3 in the morning when you have to take a test or something the next day. It’s days like those that make you almost hate Led Zeppelin for ever putting the idea of that kind of rock music out into the world. It’s a sad day when someone like that can harsh the love of Jimmy Page. Luckily, there are videos like this that exist to completely make the pendulum swing the other way.

One of the more impressive things you’re likely to watch this week is a group of kids redefine what it means to shred. The children of the Louisville Leopard Percussionists and their clearly-awesome director blew Page himself away with their medley of three Zep hits, all done on xylophone and drums. It’s a truly amazing homage to behold; kids who haven’t been alive long enough to grow out Robert Plant-length hair are playing “Kashmir,” “The Ocean,” and “Immigrant Song” better than any high school or college band ever could, on instruments usually relegated to floaty mood music or classical atmosphere. Have yourself the best gander of your day:

The ensemble began in 1993 and has around 55 members, ranging from ages 7-12, each learning a variety of instruments that will no doubt make them rock stars by the age of 15. I love this video so much; they’re PERFECT, and the fact that they don’t even need music stands in front of them makes it all the more impressive. And, those kids on the drums in the back right are cooler than any person reading this, guaranteed.

How unaccomplished do you feel?
