Subscription boxes seem to be all the rage these days. They exist for a variety of products — pop culture collectibles, t-shirts, pet toys, makeup, you name it. Reid Craig III is hoping to add something different to the mix with “Little Ms. Crate.” The monthly subscription box is aimed towards young girls ages 5-10 and will be filled with activities that engage and inspire them to purse careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) as well as leadership positions. Craig has launched a Kickstarter campaign to get the initiative off the ground.
Craig was inspired by his daughter to create the STEM and leadership career-themed subscription service. He said he’s seen several products try to make STEM appealing for girls by applying glitter, and that’s not what Little Ms. Crate is about. He wanted to create something accessible while keeping in mind that girls are different than boys but not that different. This video gives an overview of the sort of activities the crate includes:
The Little Ms. Crate Kickstarter is running for two more weeks. You can back the project at levels from $5 to $500. The tiers include subscriptions for varying lengths of time and even the opportunity for a little girl to become part of the advisory board for the company — she’d get the experience of learning how the business grows from the ground up.
What do you think about the Little Ms. Crate subscription box? Is it something you’d buy for the young girls in your life? Let me know in the comments.
