Wonderfully hilarious humans that we adoreâKeegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peeleâare teaming up with another brilliant mind, Henry Selick, on an exciting new stop-motion animation project we had no idea we needed until right now. The director of Disney classic The Nightmare Before Christmas and Laika‘s stunningly beautiful Coraline will be developing a new story of his own design with the comedy duo. Um, holy cats and yes please?!
The project, titled Wendell and Wild, has few details provided, but it sounds like it will appeal to a wide range of fans from around the geekosphere. Selick described the story to Variety in an exclusive interview as, “‘Wendell and Wild’ is a comedy about two scheming demon brothers who must face their arch-nemesis, the demon-dusting nun Sister Helly, and her two acolytes, the goth teens Kat and Raoul.”
Battle-hardenend nuns? Goth teens? Demon brothers who are at center of the story? Yes, please. Sign me up! While it sounds like some of the final details of the projects are being nailed out on the representation side (oh showbusiness!), the former Key & Peele co-creators and stars sound excited about the project. And lest you think otherwise, Key and Peele have a solid history in animation with voice work in Bob’s Burgers, BoJack Horseman, the upcoming Angry Birds film, and Stoopid Buddy Stoodio’s SuperMansion.
We, personally, cannot wait to hear more about this story. I mean, how could it not be great, right? Tell us what you think of the idea in the comments below!
