Kevin Spacey is a Cat in New NINE LIVES Trailer

It’s a classic story. Guy makes a few billion dollars while building the tallest skyscraper in the Northern Hemisphere, but forgets about his daughter’s 11th birthday. To make up for it, he goes to a magical pet shop, buys her a cat, and then via an accident that knocks him unconscious, wakes up having become trapped in the body of that very same cat. Cuh-lassic.

Hopefully no avid moviegoers have serious cat allergies, because our favorite little furry companions—along with dogs, they’re just as great, settle down!—seem to be making their way into starring roles more and more these days. Sketch comedy masters Key and Peele’s new film, Keanu stars one of the cutest kittens… ever, and now we get this new feline flick, Nine Lives.

The movie is about Tom Brand (Kevin Spacey), a “daredevil billionaire” who’s so focused on the work that his company is doing that he forgets all about his daughter’s 11th birthday. To make up for his negligence, Tom decides to get her the gift she’s always wanted—a cat—but when he plugs in a local animal shop into his GPS, it takes him to a “mystical pet store” run by Felix Grant (Christopher Walken). Tom settles on one particularly handsome gray cat, but on his way to his daughter’s birthday party, gets into a horrible accident that knocks him unconscious. Once he regains consciousness, however, Tom is no longer an all-star billionaire, but, in fact, the cat, who is named… wait for it… “Mr. Fuzzypants.” He (cat-spacey… spacey-cat?) is then adopted by his own family. Kitty hijinx and learning about the importance of family ensues (we imagine, that’s not in the official movie description).

Even if you are more of a dog person, there’s still plenty to love about what looks like either a super hilarious or super awful magical cat movie. First of all, it’s directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (The Men in Black trilogy, The Addams Family, Get Shorty), and second of all, it’s Kevin Spacey as a cat named “Mr. Fuzzypants,” with Christopher Walken as the proprietor of a magical pet shop. Sounds like we can’t lose.

Along with Spacey and Walken, the movie also stars Robbie Amell (The Flash, Scooby-Doo!), Jennifer Garner (Alias, 13 Going on 30), Malina Weissman (Supergirl) and Mark Consuelos. It’s set to claw its way into theaters summer of this year.

What do you think about the trailer for Nine Lives? Do you too hope that Spacey breaks the fourth wall like Frank Underwood does on House of Cards, but in the body of cat?! Do tell in the comments section below.
