If you listen to Kevin Smith’s podcast, Fatman on Batman, you know that the film director is obsessed with The Flash. Well, that obsession has paid off because Smith will be directing an episode of the hit show.
Announced Sunday morning at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, Smith’s episode will air this May. Smith is no stranger to the comic book world. He’s had runs on DC’s Green Arrow and is currently working on his third Batman story with artist and fellow Comic Book Man Walt Flannigan. He also wrote the “Guardian Devil” storyline for Daredevil at Marvel with Joe Quesada.
And if anyone is questioning his love for The Flash, Smith posted a reaction video of him watching the season one finale. If this doesn’t scream “emotional connection,” I don’t know what does.
It was also announced during the CW’s panel that Smith will only be directing the episode, not writing it. While I will miss the humor Kevin could add to the script, it may be for the best. I am not sure an entire episode of Barry, Cisco, and Joe sitting in Jitters discussing the merits of The Force Awakens would make a compelling superhero TV show. (But it would be a compelling thing I’d like to see in general.)
The Flash’s midseason premiere airs January 19 on The CW.
So what do you think? Will Kevin Smith’s love of The Flash translate into a great episode? Let me know on Twitter or even if you’re not supposed to be here today, head down to the comments below.
