Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O is preparing to release a new solo album, Crush Songs, due out this fall from Julian Casablancas‘ label, Cult Records.
The September 9 release collects tracks O recorded between 2006 and 2007, and Cult is describing the album as “an intimate collection of bedroom recordings in the vein of Karen’s Oscar-nominated ‘The Moon Song.'” Which sounds alright to me–that breathy, acoustic track stuck with you after watching Spike Jonze’s Her, and we are definitely down for a full album of melancholy not-quite-love-songs.
On her site, Karen O added a personal note about the release, explaining where it came from in her life:
Crush Songs is up for preorder on the Cult Records site. The label is offering a limited-run vinyl release for $50 that includes some of the singer-songwriter’s personal drawings and lyrics, as well as a download code for the digital release. If that’s a little too pricey, Cult will also be releasing Crush Songs on standard vinyl, CD, and digitally.
