The JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie Has Its Commissioner Gordon, and He’s Perfect

There aren’t many actors who have crossed lines between Marvel and DC movie franchises, and most that have, have only done so from the non-Marvel Studios films side of things. Ryan Reynolds. Halle Berry. And now J.K. Simmons, who went from being a pitch-perfect J. Jonah Jameson (a role he recently expressed interest in repeating) to Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming, two-part Justice League movie, Nerdist can confirmed.

Gordon was most recently played on the big screen by Gary Oldman—and is currently being played as a younger man by Ben McKenzie on Fox’s Gotham. We know Simmons can rock a ‘stache (a key element of the character), and we also know from Whiplash that he can be tough, and from Juno that he can be compassionate (Darkseid, or whoever the villain is, had better have a good defense against flying cymbals).

Honestly, given that they were never going to get Oldman again in order to break from Nolan-verse continuity, this seems like as perfect a choice as Patrick Stewart was for Professor X. The only bummer is that it probably means he won’t be Jameson again, and finding someone that spot-on to yell at Peter Parker is not going to be easy for the folks at Sony.

With a big name like Simmons in the mix, we can probably expect a lot of Justice League to take place in Gotham City. The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Amy Adams’ Lois Lane is confirmed too, so that makes Metropolis likely as well. Yeah, that’s probably a no-brainer, but it’s good to know anyway.

Are you as happy as we are that Simmons will be Gordon? Let us know below.
