JUSTICE LEAGUE Cast Assembles for a Different Kind of World Saving

It had been a little while since we’ve seen anything new from the Justice League cast, but the ensemble of next year’s superhero epic (sans Henry Cavill) bands together just in time for today’s Movie Morsels. Plus, an update on Booster Gold, the first trailer for the next Underworld sequel, and more!

Justice League

With the current face-off taking place between North Dakota’s Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and Dallas’ Energy Transfer Partners over the Dakota Access Pipeline, the cast of Zack Snyder’s Justice League has decided to take a page from their characters’ playbook and do the right thing. Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher endorse Change.org’s Rezpect Our Water campaign in a new video…

I’m not the world’s biggest fan of the direction Warner Bros. has taken with its DC superhero movies in recent years, but I gotta admit that this is pretty damn cool. Now let’s see if Marvel/Disney’s Avengers cast can rise to the occasion!

Booster Gold

Booster Gold

In other DC movie news, the overseer of the company’s TV universe, Greg Berlanti, is still developing his Booster Gold movie with his producing partner Andrew Kreisberg. But Berlanti has just revealed that the film, which he says grew out of his plans for an aborted Booster Gold TV show, will not be a part of Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe.

“As of right now we have no connective tissue to those worlds,” says Berlanti of the movie, which, apropos of its time-tripping protagonist, is expected to be much lighter in tone than the other films in the company’s grimdark franchise. “It’d be a separate thing.”

A Wrinkle in Time

A Wrinkle in Time

Though the hero of Madeline L’Engle’s Newbery Award-winning A Wrinkle in Time is the adolescent Meg Murry, young Meg receives considerable support in her adventures from three old women: Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which. With Oprah Winfrey playing Mrs. Which, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon are in negotiations to play Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit, respectively. Ava DuVernay is directing the Disney adaptation.

Underworld: Blood Wars

Ready or not, the trailer for Kate Beckinsale’s fourth Underworld film (and the fifth in the overall series) Underworld: Blood Wars, is now online. We reunite once more to the kickass, immortal, latex cat-suited Selene, and the neverending battle between vampires and werewolves…

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Before his Booster Gold hits the big screen, DC TV producer Greg Berlanti is in talks to direct an adaptation of the coming-out drama Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. Based on Becky Albertalli’s bestselling young adult novel, the story concerns “a high school junior named Simon whose sexual-orientation secret falls into the hands of the class clown. The latter blackmails the teen into playing cupid and while that unfolds, Simon tries to navigate a way that will let him come out to his friends and family, not pushed out.”

Bel Canto

Non-Stop Julianne Moore

Finally today, master thespian—and chronic crier—Julianne Moore (pictured above in Non-Stop), along with the multi-talented Ken Watanabe and The Hateful Eight‘s Demián Bichir, are set to star in director Paul Weitz’s adaptation of the bestseller Bel Canto. The production company BLOOM is producing the political thriller, and is looking for a buyer at this week’s Toronto International Film Festival.
