JUNGLE CRUISE Announcement Trailer Teases a Love Story

Although Disney is making us wait a while longer for the next Indiana Jones installment, we’ll be getting some retro style jungle adventure next year when Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, hits theaters in October of 2019. Production’s been in full swing, and the two stars have released a cute little promo trailer via Twitter giving fans a tiny look behind the scenes.

So what did we learn from this oh-so-brief video? Well, Johnson and Blunt named dropped the duo of Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn; their 1951 film The African Queen was the inspiration for Walt Disney when he created the original Jungle Cruise ride at Disneyland in 1955. They also mentioned Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, who starred together in two jungle explorer adventure movies back in the ’80s, Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile. It seems they are going for that kind of vibe for this new movie.

Disney has a spotty track record when it comes to adapting their theme park attractions into films. Obviously, Pirates of the Caribbean worked like gangbusters for the studio, but then there were flops like The Country Bears and The Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy. Here’s hoping the new Jungle Cruise movie is more along the lines of the original Pirates film. And hopefully The Rock gets to tell terrible dad jokes as the skipper of his boat as a tribute to the original ride. That’s the major Easter egg we need…along with elephants in a bathing pool.
