JUDGE DREDD Live-Action TV Series is Happening

Back in 2012, the live-action Dredd movie finally gave us the Judge Dredd adaptation that we’ve been dying to see for years. And while that Karl Urban led movie won’t get a sequel, we always thought that Judge Dredd would work better as a TV series. As it turns out, Judge Dredd publisher 2000 A.D. agrees with that idea, and the company has announced a new live-action series that will take viewers inside Mega-City One.

Via Entertainment Weekly, IM Global and Rebellion are teaming up for Judge Dredd: Mega-City One, which will reboot the franchise and focus on a team of Judges as well as the grim faced title character. Both the comic and the TV series take place in a futuristic world where judges have the ultimate authority to act as judge, jury, and executioner.

In the accompanying video, producer Brian Jenkins and executive producer Jason Kinsley revealed that Judge Dredd: Mega-City One will be taking a much deeper dive into the comic book mythology than either of the previous adaptations. They also noted that some fan favorite characters will appear alongside new creations as they flesh out the world of Dredd.

This show is still in an early stage of development and there is no network attached, but we’re pretty confident that it will have a home. The big question now is who should step up to play the title character? (Surely Mr. Urban will petition to reprise the role, and he’s done sci-fi TV with the canceled-too-soon Almost Human.) And should Dredd’s face remain hidden on the TV show as it is in the comic?
