Accio a very big name for a very big role in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequels!
Variety reports that professional handsome man Jude Law will fill the big wizard robes of the younger, beloved Hogwarts Professor Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sequels, a part that promises to be hugely important to the developing story that will be explored over the next four films. Between Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne, who plays Newt Scamander, and Johnny Depp, who plays Dumbledore’s friend (and possible crush)-turned-legendary foe Gellert Grindelwald, Law is the latest big star to join the franchise.
As huge fans of Law’s work (understatement), we are certainly thrilled by this bit of casting news, especially since Dumbledore is so loved he needs to be handled by an actor audiences can trust. However, we can’t say we are surprised by it, as our very own Amy Ratcliffe had Law as her top choice to play the man who would go on to be a mentor to Harry Potter.
Law will be the third person to play Dumbledore on screen, following the late Richard Harris, who originally played the part in the first two Harry Potter movies, and Michael Gambon, who took on the role after Harris passed away.
We have our own ideas for where Fantastic Beasts is headed, namely the legendary final duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald that put an end to the Dark Wizard’s reign of terror. So having a famous, talented actor in the role makes sense for Warner Bros.
