Jon Favreau’s CHEF Gets a Trailer

Great, now I want a Cubano. Or some carne asada. Really, watching the Chef trailer at lunchtime was maybe not the best idea, but here it is.

Only a couple of days after debuting its official poster, the full trailer for writer/director/star Jon Favreau’s latest is here, with ample food and jokes on display. I really want the food, though.

From the official synopsis:

“Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman), he is left to figure out what’s next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen — and zest for life and love.”

Favreau’s joined by Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., and Bobby Cannavale. They’ve all got jokes, except for Johansson, who I believe has no lines.

Chef will be in theaters May 9th.

This is the type of movie that makes me cringe, and should lead anyone to not be surprised why things like Netflix and Redbox exist, and have you wonder why it can cost $20 a person to see a movie.

It’s another “fat guy gets the hot wife with the wisecracking kid who goes through a trial to discover his passion in life again”…only with cooking food.

There’s a lot of high wattage star power here that’s going to be wasted lighting up empty theaters.

(And full disclosure…I had to rate this movie when the Nielsen people snagged me at the local cineplex, and watching it once was awful, let alone twice. I generally don’t *hate* hate things, and I like most of the actors in the movie, but this movie is why the Razzies exist.)

I believe Scarlett does say, “MMMMM”. So there’s that.
