The cast of Edgar Wright‘s Baby Driver just got a little bigger. The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal will join Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm and Kevin Spacey in the film. Bernthal will, of course, next be seen as the Punisher in season 2 of the Netflix/Marvel series Daredevil. The film is being described as a story about a getaway driver named Baby (Elgort) who is convinced to work for a crime boss named Doc (Spacey). Baby keeps his skills sharp by listening to his personal soundtrack, keeping him focused on the job. A doomed heist may bring it all to an end.
Bernthal will play the role of Griff, though we don’t really know anything about it quite yet. The film began production a few days ago in Atlanta. A heist movie written and directed by Wright, who’s brought us lovely geeky awesomeness like Spaced, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead is highly likely to have a quirky sense of humor, dark content or not. Is anyone else still wishing we’d seen his version of Ant-Man? Not that Peyton Reed‘s wasn’t great, but it would have been wonderful to see what he would have done with it.
The film was reportedly inspired by the video for Mint Royale’s “Blue Song” (above) which Wright directed back in 2003. Wright shared a few pics from the set on his Instagram account right at the beginning of filming. What do you guys think of the casting?
