JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE: STARDUST CRUSADERS Hits Adult Swim Later This Month

Over the weekend, fans of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure got some very welcome news from Adult Swim. The second season, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders is coming to the Toonami block later this month. Unfortunately for the Joestar family, DIO is back, and his God-like powers may prove to be more than they can handle.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders premiered in Japan back in 2014, but this will be the first time that the series has been broadcast on American television. The first trailer begins with the recovery of DIO’s coffin from the bottom of the sea. During the first season, defeating DIO cost Jonathan Joestar his life. Now, it falls upon Jonathan’s descendants Joseph Joestar and Jotaro Kujo to defeat DIO…if they can. DIO’s awakening has also given Jotaro and others access to supernatural abilities known as Stands. However, those powers are more of a curse to some members of the Joestar family, and DIO’s Stand may make him invincible.

This anime is based upon Hirohiko Araki’s best-selling manga series of the same name. Stardust Crusaders is actually the second animated adaptation of this storyline, after the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime from the ’90s. While that adaptation had only 13 episodes, Stardust Crusaders will unfold over 48 episodes, so there’s a lot more story in this retelling.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders will make its Adult Swim premiere on Saturday July 29. at 12:30am.
