Moviegoers in 1982 may not have fully embraced John Carpenterâs The Thing, but itâs become a classic horror film in the 34 years since its release. And if youâre anywhere near San Francisco, California, youâre gonna have the perfect opportunity to revisit the film!
Via io9, Spoke Art is hosting a special engagement of The Thing at the Roxie Theater this Saturday, May 28. To mark the occasion, Spoke Art commissioned artist David Moscati to create a new poster for Carpenterâs film, featuring one of the canines that appeared in the movie. Assuming youâve seen The Thing, you should know what the dog in the image represents.
Moscati also created a new lobby card for The Thing depicting Kurt Russell as MacReady, one of the many iconic roles heâs played in cinema history.
Now, if you canât make it to San Francisco, we have good news for you. Spoke Art will be selling the poster online starting on Friday, May 27. Youâll be able to find the poster at this link, but in the meantime, youâll be able to check out some of the impressive movie posters that Spoke Art has previously sold. And of course, the poster and the lobby card will be on sale at the Roxie Theater on Saturday.
As an added incentive, the Roxie is showing The Thing as a double feature with one of Russellâs latest films, Bone Tomahawk. Thatâs a great pairing, and well worth your time if you can make it out there.
