John C. Reilly Confirms He’s In For WRECK-IT RALPH 2!

Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph was a wonderful ode to both the history and current status of video gaming, and thanks to John C. Reilly‘s appearance at Ireland’s Galway Film Fleadh we now know that a sequel is officially officially in the works!

There was chatter when the movie’s composer let it drop that a sequel was being tossed around, but now that the lead voice talent has signed on, Disney is “gonna wreck it” all over again!  Moreover, there are reports that even more characters from popular video games — possibly Link from Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda(!)– are being negotiated between Disney and their parent companies for appearances in the sequel.

Memorably, Ralph was seen in a “bad guy support group” of sorts, joined by Nintendo‘s Bowser, Sega’s Dr. Eggman (an alternate Dr. Robotnik), Capcom’s Zangief, and others, so previous negotiations for the first movie may indeed help with expansion into more character appearances. Nintendo has shown a willingness to relax their tight control over characters recently, notably with their E3 announcement that both Bowser and Donkey Kong will be appearing in the upcoming Wii U version of the next Skylanders game.

Ralph’s journey to change his basic coding from “bad guy” to “good guy” was the driving force of the first film, and the second film will likely explore his continuing heroic quest. In order to prove himself in the original, Ralph broke all the established rules of game separation by inserting himself into Hero’s Duty, a Halo/Gears of War-inspired game, as well as a Candy Land-style racing game called Sugar Rush. It was in Sugar Rush that Ralph proved his worth, helping Vanellope Von Schweetz (voiced by comedian Sarah Silverman) regain her rightful place in that sugary world.

Ralph himself began as the hulking antagonist in Fix-It Felix, Jr. Felix was voiced by 30 Rock‘s Jack McBrayer and eventually fell in love with and married Hero’s Duty protagonist Sergeant Calhoon (Jane Lynch).

Since Reilly’s panel announcement was lacking plot details and news of potential returning characters, we’ll keep you updated with more returning cast news as it unfolds.
