Jimmy Fallon, Gwyneth Paltrow Perform Broadway Versions of Rap Songs

Leave it to Jimmy Fallon to turn top 40 rap hits into total Dad Jams. Because that’s exactly what The Tonight Show host did on Wednesday evening alongside the GOOPiest queen in all the lands. Dressed like human tube sock (complete with accent ruffle!), Gwyneth Paltrow hammed it up alongside Fallon’s tickled ivories in Broadway-ish renditions of “Started from the Bottom”, “Anaconda”, and “I Don’t F*** with You”. Because how else are cool dads and moms the world over supposed to ~connect~ with the music of today, huh?

Now before you get your jazz hands into readied and set position, be forewarned: there is no dancing in this clip. No snazzy soft-shoe or jazzy ball changes (not even from a hyperactive toddler like Fallon!); no high-kicks or aggressive smiles that twirl around a room. No, no (that would require too much)—this is instead a stripped-down version. This is a night at 54 Below when Patti LuPone sways onto stage with a glint in her eye, swaggering up to the piano with some notated sheets of composition, saying she’s got a little something special for all of us.

This is not the nineties (not anymore), so Fallon and Gywneth have embraced their mid-forties realities and really leaned into all that, crafting a cheesy little medley of Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Big Sean songs. Naturally all the swearing of the latter’s song really gives the whole thing the ending it oh-so-shockingly deserves.

What other songs would you like this duo to perform? Let us know in the comments.

No match for Anne Hathaway who did the same sketch a while ago, but much much much cooler. Gwyneth has no soul. (In this clip at least)
