Fifteen years ago, Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos introduced Jessica Jones to the Marvel Universe within the pages of Alias. Over a decade later, Jessica Jones is once again getting her own comic book, with both Bendis and Gaydos on boardâwe can probably thank the successful Jessica Jones Netflix series for that. But a lot has changed for Jessica since her last solo adventure. She’s married to Luke Cage, and they have a daughter together. Jessica even developed much deeper ties to the Avengers… not that it will help her now.
Marvel has released the first few preview pages from the new Jessica Jones series, which reveals that Jessica was locked up in “The Cellar,” a prison built to hold supervillains. Although Jessica is released in these pages, they raise some troubling questions: how did she get into this mess? And where is her family?
The rest of the preview pages can be seen in our gallery below, alongside the covers by David Mack, Alex Maleev, David Aja, and John Tyler Christopher. We’re particularly fond of Christopher’s action figure variant cover, which features a glimpse of Jessica’s superheroine alter egos: Jewel and Knightress.
Marvel is being cagey about Jessica’s new status quo, but we do know that her P.I. firm, Alias Investigations is back in business, and she’ll be dragged to “the center of the Marvel Universe” when Jessica Jones #1Â hits on Wednesday, October 12.
