Jessica Chobot Stars as Samus Aran in METROID: THE SKY CALLS

Remember back in 2008, when IGN posted that amazing Legend of Zelda trailer? Sure, it was an April Fool’s prank, but the quality of Rainfall Films’ work was so good that we nearly believed it. After allowing fans to vote on their next project, the production company revealed last year that their next short would be based on the beloved Metroid series. Fast-forward a year, and the video is finally out in the wild. If seeing the badass bounty hunter in action wasn’t cool enough, we’re pretty stoked that it’s our very own Jessica Chobot (of Nerdist News) behind the mask of Samus Aran. Check it out above!

Though brief, Ranfall’s fan-made film Metroid: The Sky Calls, is a well-executed piece that’s really got us thinking about how badly we want an entire film dedicated to the world of Nintendo’s famous sci-fi shooter. While it would be awesome to see Samus taking out alien baddies on the big screen, the above short will have to do for now.

In the video’s description, the producer stated that they reinterpreted “the classic Nintendo franchise, Metroid … through the lens of 60s-70s science fiction cinema such as 2001, Alien, and Solaris: this was the concept for Rainfall’s most recent production. Instead of using a modern approach, a style was developed more in tune with the themes that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986: isolation, exploration, and the wonders of deep space.”

What did you guys think of the video ? Would you want to see Samus on the big screen? Let us know in the comments below.
