Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal Will Star in THE DIVISION Movie

Go ahead and start doing jumping jacks for joy, The Division fans. After countless hours spent in the Dark Zone that is the entertainment industry rumor mill, Ubisoft has officially announced that their open-world third-person shooter is being turned into a feature film. The film, which depicts the aftermath of a pandemic in Manhattan, will be made by Ubisoft Motion Pictures and will star both Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler).

The announcement also noted that Chastain and Gyllenhaal won’t just be starring in the video game adaptation, but they will be producing it too through their respective production companies, Freckle Films and Nine Stories. Ubisoft remains tight-lipped on what aspects of The Division’s in-game narrative we will see on the big screen, but it seems safe to speculate that both Chastain and Gyllenhaal will be two Division agents tasked with restoring order to the chaos-filled streets of New York City in the wake of the Black Friday small pox outbreak caused by eco-terrorists.

The Division is the latest film in Ubisoft’s catalog to be developed into a feature film. Assassin’s Creed, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, hits theaters this winter on December 21. Ubisoft Motion Pictures is also currently developing movies based on Watch Dogs, Ghost Recon, Rabbids, and Splinter Cell. Now that’s all well and good, but I think the biggest question on my mind — and most gamers’ minds– is where the hell is our Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon movie? Your move, Ubisoft.
