When Jena Malone was added to the cast of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the popular speculation was that she would play Carrie Kelley, the female Robin from the classic miniseries, The Dark Knight Returns. But a new report suggests that Malone will be someone else with very close ties to Batman.
Malone is rumored to be playing Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon and a comic book heroine who was both Batgirl and Oracle in the DC Universe. The new report doesnât indicate whether Barbara will take on either of her heroic personas in this film, but it would certainly open the door for that in Ben Affleckâs rumored Batman movie.
The most famous live-action Barbara Gordon was Yvonne Craig, who played Batgirl in the Batman TV series from the â60s. Hannah Gunn played a very young Barbara Gordon in The Dark Knight, while Alicia Silverstone portrayed Barbara Wilson as Batgirl in Batman & Robin. Dina Meyer played Barbara Gordon as Oracle in the short-lived Birds of Prey TV series, and Barbara Gordon/Oracle is rumored to have a role in TNTâs live-action pilot, Titans.
Prior to joining Batman v Superman, Malone was best known for her roles in The Hunger Games film series, Sucker Punch, The Ruins, Into the Wild, Saved!, Donnie Darko, and Stepmom.
Director Zack Snyderâs Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will swoop into theaters on March 25, 2016.
