Listen to Jemaine Clement’s ‘Goodbye Moonmen’ from RICK AND MORTY

We’re only two episodes in to Season 2 of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty and already we’ve had a couple of dark stories. While the first episode, “A Rickle in Time”, had multiple uncertainties and moments of possible death and destruction, the second episode, “Mortynight Run”, had a really high body count. Not only were we introduced to an intergalactic assassin, Krombopulos Michael, but in Morty’s determination to save one of Michael’s targets, a whole lot of other people died in the process. I mean, it MIGHT have been for nothing, but…

That target turned out to be a floating, sentient, telepathic cloud, which Rick eloquently named “Fart” (voiced by Jemaine Clement). After Morty assures Fart that all he wants is a peaceful universe for every being, Fart shows him a fantasy realm in his own mind whilst singing a trippy slow-jam, sung very much in the style of David Bowie, entitled “Goodbye Moonmen.” Above, you can see the song in context of the show, but below, Williams Street Records has released the entire two-minute-and-twenty-second song, full of references to live and love and other random noises cobbled together to appear deep.

The song, co-written by David Phillips and Dan Harmon, is the perfect ethereal accompaniment to any gaseous cloud-induced hallucination. It’s also ideal for simply playing the hyper-realistic game of Roy, living the entire life of a person who once had a lot of potential but eventually going on to work in a carpet store, get cancer, beat cancer, and then die after falling off a stepladder. So, like, that’s also an option.

How are you liking this season of Rick and Morty? Let me know in the comments!
