Although fans of the classic ’80s cartoon Jem and the Holograms were massively disappointed in the character’s live-action movie debut last year, which bore almost no resemblance to the animated series from which it took its name, the folks at IDW Comics have been treating Jerrica Benton and her friends much, much better than Hollywood did. Recently, IDW’s Jem and the Holograms series ended its run with issue #26, and was soon followed up with a Misfits 5-issue mini called Jem and the Misfits, which also just finished its run. Now IDW is producing a crossover mini-series between the two rival bands, and the story arc is called âInfinite.â To commemorate the release of this new mini-series, IDW has created a new music video recreating the classic Jem theme song, updated for today. You can check out the truly outrageous music video down below:
Itâs told in six parts and will be biweekly, trading off from one title to the other for each chapter of the story. The first issue of Infinite hits comic book shops on Wednesday, June 28th, followed by Jem and the Holograms: The Misfits: Infinite #1 on July 5th, which is Part 2 of this âInfiniteâ crossover series.
The IDW Jem and the Holograms series updated the classic animated show for the modern day, but keeps all the elements fans loved, like the sentient computer Synergy, and the Holograms’ rival band the Misfits, who were cut out of the live-action movie all together. (Who thought that was a good idea?)
Jem and the Holograms: Infinite #1 is coming from longtime Jem writer Kelly Thompson, with art by Stacey Lee, and covers by Veronica Fish. The story continues in Jem and the Holograms: The Misfits: Infinite #1, also written by Kelly Thompson, with art by Jenn St-Onge, and covers also by Veronica Fish. The story will then continue in Jem and the Holograms: Infinite #2. You can take a peek at the cover for Jem and the Holograms: Infinite #1 below:
In this storyline, the Misfits are trapped in a computer simulated world ruled by Jem and powered by Synergy Hologram Technology. As you can imagine, the Misfits are just not thrilled living in world ruled by their biggest do-gooder rival. The first issue of Infinite hits comic book shops on Wednesday, June 28th, followed by Jem and the Holograms: The Misfits: Infinite #1 on July 5th.
