Jason Bateman’s BAD WORDS Trailer: Let’s Be Jerks to Children

Is there anything more satisfying than beating children? Wait, no — word choice. Is there anything more satisfying than taking on a particularly repugnant child, knocking them down a few pegs by beating them at their own game and calling it a “life lesson”? OK, so, maybe there are a few things, but the trailer for Jason Bateman’s latest comedic effort and his directorial debut, Bad Words, shows just how nourishing the affair can be for the soul of the man-or-woman-child that lives within all of us.

The film — which debuted to middling reviews up at the Toronto International Film Festival — tells the raucous and not-at-all-pathetic story of Guy Trilby (Bateman), a 40-year-old man who exploits a loophole rule regarding graduating the 8th grade to ensure regional spelling bee domination.

Though it’s not all petulant childs’ play in here. Turns out Bad Words might even have a buddy-film aspect to it, brought to you by the admittedly adorable Rohan Chand — that’s Issa Nazir from Homeland, Niiiichooolaassss — and his loner-kid naiveté. In the minute and a half we get, the duo fall into some serious hijinks including lobster warfare, parking lot doughnuts, and what looks to be a lot of badmouthed tomfoolery. We can only imagine that the whole thing ends in some crass and sweet manner, littered with a few sweet life realizations brought about by this newly formed, odd-couplesque bromance. The film also stars Kathryn Hahn as Guy’s reporter-slash-fuck buddy Jenny, and features everyone’s favorite Jackal enthusiast Allison Janney.

Bad Words hits theaters March 14th. Will you be going to see it? Cuss about it in the comments.
