Jared Leto Gave a Dead Pig to the SUICIDE SQUAD Cast

Remember that scene from the Suicide Squad trailer when the Joker’s henchman walks in and drops a dead pig on the table? No? Oh, sorry, that was just Jared Leto goofing around on set.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Viola Davis—who plays squad director Amanda “The Wall” Waller in the upcoming film—detailed some of Leto’s dubious on-set antics.

“He did some bad things, Jared Leto did,” she said. “He gave some really horrific gifts. He had a henchman who would come into the rehearsal room, and the henchman came in with a dead pig and plopped it on the table, and then he walked out. And that was our introduction into Jared Leto.”

Maybe he’s finally manifesting the residual trauma from Tyler Durden’s hazing. The more likely explanation, though, is the insane bar that’s been set for the Joker role by Heath Ledger. Leto is putting forth that same kind of effort—Will Smith said he never really even met Jared Leto because he was always in character as the Joker. The role demands a fine balance of crazy and commitment, and Davis also took note of that in Leto.

“Now I’m terrified as a person thinking ‘Is he crazy?’ but the second part was ‘Oh shit! I got to have my stuff together.’ You talk about commitment and then he sends Margot Robbie a black rat. It was still alive in a box, she screamed, and then she kept it.”

Hopefully that means there’s an epic performance on the way from Leto. Are you expecting greatness? Let us know what you think of his shenanigans in the comments below.
