Some may be as disappointed as I was to find that Jane Got a Gun is not a dramatization of the hit song by Aerosmith. They also may be as pleasantly surprised as I was to find out the film is actually a no-holds-barred Western with some rather impressive names attached to it.
Former Star Wars cast mates Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor share the screen again in this action-packed Western, however now they will face off against each other. Jane Got a Gun tells the story of Jane, played by Portman, a young woman married to good man (Noah Emmerich) after having escaped captivity at the hands of the Bishop Boys gang. When the gang’s leader Colin (McGregor) finds her and kills her new husband, Jane must turn to a man from her past (Joel Edgerton) to help her make a stand against the gang.
The trailer promises plenty of gun fights, horseback riding, and smarmy-gentleman mustaches. Just look at this thing!
If the film can deliver what the trailer offers, then 2016 may already have an Oscar contender on its hands. Portman and McGregor have proved themselves several times over as award-worthy actors, and it is great to see both Joel Edgerton and Noah Emmerich involved in a film as promising as this. This is especially true of Emmerich, who fans of FX’s The Americans already know to be one hell of an actor. Jane Got a Gun will definitely be a film to keep an eye out for.
