Word on the street is that Jamie Foxx is going to board Edgar Wright’s new film Baby Driver, playing opposite rising stars Ansel Elgort (Insurgent) and Lily James (Cinderella). Foxx had a whopping four movies out last year, and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
We’d be stoked if this casting rumor was true, because Wright’s previous films (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and my personal favorite Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and his accompanying collaborations have proven to be very successful with audiences and critics alike. This new project will reunite Wright with his longtime collaborators at Working Title Films.
So, what’s Baby Driver about, you say? From what we know so far, it’s an action-comedy following a crime boss who coerces a music-obsessed getaway driver (that’s Elgort with a sweet baby face) to work for him, risking his life at every turn. When the doomed heist goes horribly wrong and his life is hanging by a thread, Elgort’s character is forced to go on the run. James will play a waitress who becomes his love interest.
Production is due to begin on Baby Driver in New Orleans this Fall, and the release date is expected as March 17, 2017. I know, it’s too far! You’ll just have to have an Edgar Wright movie marathon in the meantime to get your fix. I know I need mine.
