When it comes to the Super Bowl, we expect there to be a slew of amazing movie trailers. But over the years, networks have also realized thereâs a benefit to airing badass ads during the big game for upcoming debuts and the return of hit shows. And, even if ads for certain shows may end up redundant, it doesnât make them any less awesome⦠just like this new ad for The Blacklist.
The glorious new spot features the always charismatic James Spader walking through a sea of destruction. It may seem odd for NBC to funnel so much money into something like this. The Jon Bokenkamp-created drama is already set to air after the Super Bowl on Sunday in order to promote its move to Thursdays at 9pm, but we wonât deny there are worse ways for the peacock to spend the dough.
When The Blacklist is firing on all cylinders, it stands tall as one of televisionâs most entertaining series â of course mostly due to the amazing work of the man about to step into the role of the titular villain in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Surely that was the point of the ad: to sell to any new viewers on just how exciting the series can be. With any luck, this promo will do just enough to convince some newcomers to stick around after the Super Bowl this Sunday for the post-game episode, which guest stars Ron Perlman in the first half of a major two-parter.
The Blacklist returns Thursday at 9/8c on NBC.
