James Gunn Confirms GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Sequel Title

Ever since Baby Groot danced his way into our hearts and Marvel announced a follow-up to Guardians of the Galaxy, we have been feverishly awaiting any tidbits related to the superhero sequel. While we’ve heard that the sequel will be more emotional and place a focus on fathers, little else was known about the film…until now. Today our most anticipated Marvel movie has an official title. The news first broke in an interview on Collider with Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige, wherein he accidentally referred to the Guardians sequel as “Vol. 2”. Now with the cat halfway out of the bag, director James Gunn took to Twitter to confirm that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will in fact be called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Super on board with that title. The only acceptable alternative would have been Guardians of the Galaxy 2: Groot-lectric Boogaloo. Now that we have the title, the biggest question remains: what sweet jams will be on Awesome Mix, Vol. 2? I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some Prince, specifically anything off of Purple Rain. Given that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 doesn’t come out until May 5, 2017, there will be plenty of time for rampant speculation between now and then.

For even more nuggets of wisdom and updates on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, make sure you tune into Tuesday’s episode of Nerdist News.

If you want to find out what would be on Benicio Del Toro’s personal Awesome Mix, look no further than this video.
