James Gandolfini Passes Away

In very sad news, veteran actor of stage and screen James Gandolfini has passed away at the age of 51, while vacationing in Italy. The New Jersey native was best known for the role of Tony Soprano in one of the most beloved television series of all time, The Sopranos.

Gandolfini got his start on Broadway in 1992 in a production of On the Waterfront, and in his varied career would go on to appear in over forty feature films; with standout roles in movies like True Romance, Get Shorty, Crimson Tide, and The Man Who Wasn’t There. Throughout his career, Gandolfini never strayed from the stage for too long, often taking breaks from film projects to act in the theater. He was also a producer of documentaries, such as HBO’s Wartorn 1861-2010 and Alive Day: Home from Iraq.  Gandolfini had also been awarded with most of actings highest honors, from the Golden Globe to an Emmy, to several Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Here is Gandolfini’s Inside The Actors Studio interview, to help memorialize a truly great performer.

I was hoping Mr. Hardwick would be the one to write this piece. Without him and the Sopranos there wouldn’t be a Game of Thrones. The members of the Night Watch of HBO are gathering around “Jimmy”. They utter the words to their fallen member; “His watch has now ended”.

Maybe Chris can do a memorial podcast for “Jimmy” at NerdMelt.
