Age may drive us apartâfrom each other, from the things we loved when we were youngâbut no matter how old you are, Chewbacca will always need his Han Solo. (Literally and metaphorically, natch.) And on The Late Late Show Thursday night, James Corden and Billy Eichner put those sentiments into a beautiful song to remind us that the things and people we love are just a phone call away. Oh, and it was also a damn funny parody.
That’s right, the duo did a Halloween parody of Adele‘s new song “Hello”âtitled “A Lonely Halloween”âabout two old friends trying to remember past Halloweens spent together, and maybe to do it once more.In the video, Corden plays a man in a Chewbacca costume pining for his friend and former trick-or-treating/toilet-papering partner in crime, Han Solo, who now has a family to deal with on Halloween (played by Billy Eichner). What makes it better? The two not only parodied Adeleâs song, but also her video. We don’t want to give too much away, so just watch it. (Don’t worry we’ll wait here ’til you’re done.)
This is funny and silly, butâlike most of Cordenâs best stuffâstrangely touching. After all, everyone knows you “canât ring doorbells on my own.” So true.
To really appreciate the parody, watch Adeleâs video for “Hello”. The sincerity of the spoof is what makes it so good.
What other costume would be incomplete without a partner? Tell us in the comments below.
