James Corden and Coldplay’s Chris Martin Cover David Bowie

Well, we never took Coldplay’s Christ Martin for the hitchhiking type.

In the latest episode of The Late Late Show‘s “Carpool Karaoke,”, James Corden found Coldplay’s Chris Martin attempting just that on his to the Super Bowl, where he’s playing during the halftime show this Sunday. Martin, with that same devilish charm that won over Gwyneth for so many years, convinced a reluctant Corden to drive him to the game’s host city, San Francisco.

It’s a long drive from LA, so Corden suggests turning on the radio. “Yes James, music I think is exactly what’s needed,” Martin responds. And of course Coldplay filtered through the airwaves. Together the men sang pieces of Coldplay classics like: “Adventure of a Lifetime,” “Yellow,” “Hymn for the Weekend,” “Viva La Vida,” “Us Against the World,” and “Paradise.”

Martin even improvised a potential Super Bowl song on a toy keyboard, which he eventually transitioned into a rendition of the late David Bowie‘s “Heroes.” (Last month, Coldplay famously revealed to NME that they once sent a track to Bowie in hopes of collaborating, to which he responded simply, “It’s not a very good song, is it?”)

The 15-minute clip also includes footage of California landscapes and droll British banter, most notably a repartee about how the men don’t know anything about American football. Along the way, the duo stopped at a gas station, shacked up in a hotel–where Corden’s car got stolen–and eventually finished the journey on a tandem bike.

Dod you like the pair’s rendition of “Heroes?” Do you want to bike to the Super Bowl on a tandem bike? let us know in the comments below.
