In a world where cinematic universes exist, we now feel the need to retain strict, unwavering continuity — to the point where a whole movie explaining why Ben Affleck isn’t Batman might be necessary. This is a new thing. For decades, for example, the actor playing the world’s greatest super spy changed over and over and it was only ever referenced once (and that was a joke). Fan canon now says there are multiple James Bonds, each inheriting the name and number.
That idea gets taken to the logical endpoint in a feature-length fan-edit film (shared via the AV Club) with the amazing title of Die Spy Kill Kill.
This insane piece of editing is the work of the Team Spyral, who turned an editing experiment into a fully formed, 2 hour 16 minute film — it would be the fifth longest Bond movie of all time (seriously, those movies are long as shit). As you can see from the above trailer, six different missions from the different films converge into a battle royale for 007 supremacy. It also illustrates the recurrent motifs in the 55 year history of the franchise, from scuba diving to downhill skiing to generally being a menace to buildings.
It like Team Spyral have chosen to stick to one or two movies per bond. Obviously George Lazenby only has On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Timothy Dalton only has The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill from which to choose, but Brosnan and Craig each have four, Connery has six, and Moore has seven, so it’s nice to see some restraint; only pulling from films where it makes the most sense for the narrative they’re constructing.
