Last night, we saw a lot of incredible moments at the 2016 Tony Awards. Host James Corden and others gave gracious, moving tributes to the LGBTQ community after this weekend’s horrific tragedy in Orlando. Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s game-changing historical musical, Hamilton, took home 11 awards. Barbara Streisand returned to the Tonys after forty-six years. The nominees and winners were more diverse than the last few years of the Oscars combined. And apparently, unbeknownst to us poor peasants who were not actually IN attendance last night, Jake freakin’ Gyllenhaal sang a Disney duet with Sean Hayes and Corden. BE STILL MY HEART!
CBS may have tried to hide this glorious rendition from us during a commercial break, but Sean Hayes is a man of the people. He knew we’d need to see this, so he uploaded it to his Facebook account for all to see.  Yes, Jake Gyllenhaal took to the front of the house with fellow presenter Sean Hayes and James Corden to serenade the audience with quintessential karaoke song and romantic 90s love song, “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. And the performance is as captivating as you’d expect. Gyllenhaal knows most of the words and gets so into the song that he steals the microphone from Corden and Hayes.
I must say, hearing Jake Gyllenhaal burst into song has only made me even more sad that I missed him play Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors. Damn you, NYC! Why do you have to be on the other side of the country?
