Jack White and THE MUPPETS Covered Stevie Wonder

Maybe Jack White should just always be on The Muppets. It seems like he does a lot of good for Kermit the Frog while he’s there. In his recent appearance, the White Stripes, Raconteurs, and Dead Weather member sang with Kermit while helping him out with his perpetual Piggy problem. But it wasn’t until White took to the stage with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem to sing Stevie Wonder‘s classic “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” that Piggy finally started coming around.

You had to expect that it wasn’t just going to be a straight-up cover of the song, since White is known to imbue every song he does with his signature brand of guitar shredding. Even with that, Wonder’s song is one of the great love songs of the modern age, and is the perfect tune to help mend the fences between Kermit and Piggy. You can hear the full version of White’s cover of the song on Apple Music prior to its vinyl release some time in the future.

This isn’t the first time Stevie Wonder or his music have appeared with Jim Henson’s creations. While he was never a guest on The Muppet Show, Wonder and his band did make two appearances on Sesame Street, the first in 1973 where he played “Superstition” and the below funk-tastic version of “1-2-3 Sesame Street.” Kids back then got the coolest public television!

The best part of this video? That one kid with the Prince Valiant haircut grooving the hell out on the fire escape. Right there with ya, kid who is now around 50 years old. Right there with ya.

Are you digging The Muppets? Do you think Jack White should only do Stevie Wonder covers? Let us know in the comments below!
