For more than twenty years, bestselling author R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books have been terrifying young adult readers in all the right ways, offering more monsters, demons, ghosts, ghouls, critters, and creepy clowns than one can count. This Halloween, Goosebumps looks like it will finally get its due on the big screen when Monsters vs. Aliens director Rob Letterman’s film adaptation of Stine’s series arrives. Due out on October 15th and starring Jack Black in a brilliantly meta bit of casting as Stine himself, the film finds a way to incorporate tons of the author’s creations in a storyline that sees his imagination accidentally let loose on a small town in Maryland when a teen protagonist (natch) moves next door to the high-strung Stine and falls for his beguiling niece.
Co-starring Halston Sage, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, Amy Ryan, and the always funny Ken Marino, and written by Ed Wood scribes Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, Goosebumps promises to be a howlingly entertaining time at the movies for fans of all ages. And we’ve got the film’s very first full-length international trailer (courtesy of Sony Pictures) right here for your viewing enjoyment!
The Abominable Snowman, The Invisible Boy, evil lawn gnomes, giant mantises, werewolves, AND Slappy the Evil Dummy? Count us in! Here’s hoping the film is in the tradition of ’80s suburbia-run-amuck gems like Gremlins.
