When you live the good life of chillinâ and eating paddy frogs, sometimes you have to slow your roll and change things up, make a conscious effort to try something different. Perhaps an Outer Rim vegan lifestyle is a good change of pace and the best way to ease your way into it is with an edible homage to the one and only Jabba Desilijic Tiure.
If youâre vegan, a meaty Shepherdâs Pie usually isnât in the cards but Yuki of Yukitchen created a vegan version using lentils, mushrooms and Japanese okura that still gives you the feeling of a hearty, filling dish. Everything tastes better with a little Star Wars, so to top the whole thing off, she created a sculpted mashed potato Jabba the Hutt. You canât possibly miss meat with his adorably dangerous face staring at you.
This glorious vegan creation is molded from potatoes, soy milk and a little vegetable stock. Jabba is then placed on top of his stewy throne and baked in the oven where he turns a crispy golden brown. Think of it as getting a little tan under the twin suns of Tatooine.
To turn this meal from potato to Hutt, heâs painted with a little wet matcha powder to get that greenish Jabba hue. If thereâs a Pantone color for Jabba, matcha is it. The final touch is Jabbaâs face, and the eyes say it all. Cut pieces of dried seaweed are lovingly applied to get that maniacal look we know so well.
After all is said and done, potato Jabba looks positively majestic on his vegetable medley throne. I donât think I could eat such a fine specimen but the lure of the potatoes will always take me to the Dark Side.
