It’s been a good month for Harry Potter fans. The Wizarding World Diagon Alley expansion opened at Universal Orlando on July 8th, and J.K. Rowling recently shared a new story set within the world of Harry Potter. Penned by Rita Skeeter, the piece offered a look at the members of Dumbledore’s Army as some of them attended the Quidditch World Cup. She has another treat for us on Pottermore: on Friday, she live-blogged the World Cup Final as both Ginny Potter and Rita Skeeter. Way to leverage transmedia storytelling, J.K. Rowling!
Potter and Skeeter captured the ins and outs of the match between Brazil and Bulgaria from the pre-match show until the exciting ending. Of all the extensions of the Harry Potter world I thought I’d see, I never would have guessed it would have been a live-blog. However, this type of storytelling is ideal for Pottermore and it’s giving me hope that we’ll see more fresh content.
But back to the Quidditch World Cup Final, it’s fun to read the differences between Rita’s and Ginny’s commentary. Rita’s notes are of course marked with a green quill while Ginny’s reports are denoted with a gray one. Rita comments on the attendees of the match, focusing on the Potters and Weasley, and Ginny keeps it professional and details the happenings of the game and overall tone of the crowd. It reflects real life all too closely. An example of their reports over two hours into the game:
Ginny: Krum and Silva are in a breakneck dash for the Snitch, which SIlva sighted first – he is four feet ahead of Krum as both rise almost vertically –
Rita: Everyone is on their feet, including the denizens of the VIP boxes – Harry Potter is shouting – if my lip-reading is accurate, Ronald Weasley is swearing –

I could read their live-blog all day regardless of the topic. What do you think about this addition to the Harry Potter universe? Let us know in the comments!
